Do the Lions want a used Seahawk?

T.J. Duckett signed with the Seattle Seahawks to a 5-year contract as free agent running back from the Lions. Detroit has waved running back Kevin Jones (and his $2M salary cap hit) as well. My Leos are in need of some running back depth is a serious way. With Rodgers and Williams as bookend receivers we have a viable and talented threat there. But as last season showed, without a ground threat our air threat hits double coverage every time. Now I’m going to make a suggestion people may not like, but just mull it over a minute. I want a RB swap with Seattle. Let’s snag Sean Alexander from the Seahawks for 1-2 years at the $4.7M in cap space that the Seahawks want to free up. No draft pics, just the cap space owed by Seattle.
Here’s my reasoning:
1. Detroit running game sucks, so it’s hard not to improve even with average veteran RB numbers. Alexander averages 4.3 per carry currently.
2. Alexander is getting shoved out of Seattle none to gently. They think he’s washed up. He’s got a sizable ego and he will want to push the envelope next year to show them they made a big mistake running him out of town. Unfortunately Detroit does not play Seattle in the 08-09 season. We might have been able to get him even cheaper if that was the case.
3. He’s had a sizable amount of time to cushion his recovery window.
4. He may just bite at a short term contract that will give him another window to showcase his talents and resurrect his career in 09-10 again.
5. Can the Lions really do worse. Just don’t give up any draft picks for him!
Out of Seattle:
Shaun Alexander’s future remains an unanswered question.
Alexander was at the Seahawks’ headquarters on Tuesday, he’s still on the team’s roster and he’s continuing his recovery from surgery to repair the broken bone in his left wrist.
Coach Mike Holmgren said he met with Alexander on Tuesday. He also met with backup running back Maurice Morris, who came to the team’s headquarters in the afternoon. It was Alexander’s first day at the team’s facility since the Seahawks reached agreements with free-agent running backs T.J. Duckett and Julius Jones last week.
Seahawks president Tim Ruskell told Alexander before free agency began the team would be looking at running backs. Now with Duckett and Jones on the Seahawks’ roster, the looming question concerns Alexander’s future.
Ruskell said that Alexander had not been released. When he was asked about Alexander’s future, Ruskell reiterated he had not been released.
