Is Obama channeling Carter? It sure looks that way to me.

I have compared Obama’s candidacy to that of Jimmy Carter’s several times in the past.  The parallels are unmistakable.  As least to a simple guy like me.  Jeffery Lord has saved me allot of time by summing up the policy comparison in his piece today for The American Spectator.

Excerpts: Obama’s windfall profits tax idea? A Jimmy Carter biggie. “Unless we tax the oil companies, they will reap huge and undeserved windfall profits,” fumed Carter on national television in 1980. The New York Times agreed, warning darkly that “legislators who sit by idly while oil profits soar will have to answer to the voters.” With Democrats controlling Congress they got their way. As if on cue, oil production — fell. To the tune of 1.6 billion fewer barrels. America’s dependence on foreign oil rose. Eventually even the Timeswas agreeing the tax had to be repealed, and by 1988 Reagan, who campaigned against it, signed the repeal (by a Democrat Congress no less) into law. And Obama wants to do this all over again? Yes.

Alright you rat friggin bastards, enough already!  WordPress is great at catching spamers, but these ringtone pukes are filling my ‘pending comments’.  I’m honored that I now get enough traffic to get there attention but they can quit now.   Who would buy ringtones from an internet spam ad anyway?

Well back to the Sunday talking-head shows.  Great comedy today.

D.C. Madam suicide?

Posted in Politics with tags , , on 1 May 2008 by The Pissed Off Tree Rat

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, known as the “D.C. Madam,” was found dead in Florida today, according to police. Palfrey hanged herself in a storage shed and was found by her mother, police said. Palfrey was convicted last month on charges related to a high-end prostitution ring catering to Washington’s elite.

She was awaiting sentencing for slammer time.  Suicide or convenient silencing?  Hmmmmm wonder who was still in her little black book?  You know the conspiracy freaks will jump all over this.  I’m postureing it was Ol Teddy K.  What the hell, you know it’s going to come up…..

I just can’t help it.  I saw this and immediatley thought of the old “caption this picture’ jokes.

My first thought was:

“Now honey dear, don’t fly off the handle again and come off looking like a complete tool on national TV.”

Is this really the resume for a President?

Posted in Politics with tags on 27 April 2008 by The Pissed Off Tree Rat

I want to set aside the ‘nice guy’ vs. ‘leftist’ (and so on) debate for a minute.  Before this election year from hell even began I never liked Obama for President.  Political affiliation aside even.  Why?  Because this guys has no business running for president in my befuddled opinion.  He is not qualified, period, end of story.   He has an unimpressive resume of 7 years in the Illinois State Senate and 4 as a U.S. Senator.  His 11 years as a lawyer rounds it out.  Obama would never be in the running for CEO of a small company let along the Leader of the Free World.  Get serious.  He didn’t carry any clout in the U.S. Senate until he caught on as a ‘feel good fad’ for the DNC.  This guy has shown no sense in his personal, or professional associations,  and no ability to anything by give artfull/flowery dodges to the hard questions.  Who are we kidding.  This guy has Carter level disasters national, and global, written all over him.

Political Office: U.S. Senator from Illinois, elected 2004; member, Illinois State Senate 1997-2004
Business/Professional Experience: Attorney, law firm of Miner Barnhill & Galland (Chicago, IL), 1993-2004

I have restarted, and recomputed, the Lions 08-09 GIBAG predictor based on the full schedule release.  The Gut Instinct Blind Assed Guess system uses the massive computing power of a POTR subconscious and irresponsible amounts of beer to lubricant it’s cogs.  I will put it’s results against ESPN any day.  Based on the new schedule variable the GIBAG estimates Lions will now finish 9-7 in the 2008-2009.  This is a slight change from the initial 8-8 figures.  The most notable results are the 3-0 start going into the bye week, that will continue to a 4-0 start.  Our hope will rise.  A lose in Minnesota on the road will stop that rise, but our hope eternal will spring again with a road win against the Texans.  Is the curse over?  No way amigos!  Following that road win we will go on a 4 week skid that only stops with our crushing the Bucs at Ford Field on Nov 23rd.  This Thanksgiving day victory will have us at 6-5 going into week 14 against the Titans who will squash our optimism at home.  Now at 6-6 we look like the old Lions again.  Well extract some vengeance against the Vikings, but have to suffer through a biblical asswhoping from the Colts on their turf.  Now 7 & 7.  I’m picking two upsets for the Lions to finish strong against the Saints and the Packets for a 9-7 finish.  Playoffs?  Maybe………… but only if the NFC North does as poorly as I think they just may do.  Hope does spring eternal in Motown.

GIBAG analysis:
